Home Latest Drug News News Blog Pregnancy Labeling Change to Antipsychotic Drugs

On February 22, 2010, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) notified healthcare professionals that there will be labeling changes made to the pregnancy section of all antipsychotic drugs including Haldol, FazaClo, Fanapt, Clozaril, Risperdal, Zyprexa, Seroquel, Abilify, Geodon, Invega, Loxitane, Moban, Navane, Orap, Saphris, Stelazine, Thorazine, and Symbyax.

According to MedWatch, the FDA Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program, the new and improved drug labels will now contain "consistent information about the potential risk for abnormal muscle movements (extrapyramidal signs or EPS) and withdrawal symptoms in newborns whose mothers were treated with these drugs during the third trimester of pregnancy."

The FDA is urging patients to consult their physician before stopping the use of any antipsychotic drug.
